Overtime and work/life balance
The Health tab reads your recent weeks and tells you plainly whether your hours are sustainable.
How a week is scored
Each week has a target: 8 hours for every working day, minus any days off (a half day off counts as half). A standard Monday-to-Friday week is 40 hours; a week with a public holiday in it is 32. Whatever you work above the target is overtime for that week, and whatever you fall short by counts against you.
Weeks count once they are finished — as soon as your weekend starts. Before your first full week, the Health view simply asks you to keep tracking.
On track, under or over
The status at the top of the Health view compares your average over your last four completed weeks with your average target over those weeks:
- On track 💚 — 100 to 112.5% of your target. On a 40-hour week, that is 40 to 45 hours.
- Over 😰 — more than 112.5% of your target. One long week is normal; a month of them is a pattern worth noticing.
- Under ⚠️ — below your target. If you have built up overtime earlier, though, a lighter stretch that spends some of it still counts as on track.
Your cumulative overtime balance
Clockflux keeps a running total of overtime across every completed week: each week’s hours minus its target, added up. A chart shows how the balance has moved over time, and a breakdown lists your hours against your target for each recent week.
If you already had overtime (or owed hours) before you started using Clockflux, enter it once in Settings → Overtime. It becomes the starting point of the balance, rather than showing up as extra hours in your first week.
On the free plan the Health stats cover the current year. With Clockflux Pro they cover your full history, and you can set your own daily target in place of 8 hours.
Working it out by hand
The weekly overtime calculator uses the same rules for a single week, and how to calculate overtime walks through the arithmetic with examples.
