Offline use, installing and backups
Where your data lives on the free plan, and how to keep it safe.
Where your data lives
On the free plan, Clockflux has no account and no server. Every session, day off and setting is saved in your browser’s own storage on the device you are using, and never sent anywhere. The privacy notice has the details.
Because nothing has to reach a server, Clockflux works with no internet connection at all — on a train, on a plane, or on a building site with no signal.
Installing the app
Clockflux runs in any modern browser, and can also be installed so it opens from your home screen, dock or start menu like any other app:
- Android (Chrome) — accept the install prompt, or use the menu → Install app.
- iPhone and iPad (Safari) — tap Share → Add to Home Screen.
- Desktop (Chrome or Edge) — click the install icon in the address bar.
On iPhone and iPad, an app added to the Home Screen keeps its own storage, separate from Safari’s — so pick one way of opening Clockflux and stick with it, or move your data across with a backup (below).
What can erase your data
Data kept in a browser stays there until something removes it. On the free plan, these can:
- clearing your browser’s site data or history for clockflux.app;
- using a private or incognito window, which forgets everything when closed;
- uninstalling the browser, or losing or resetting the device.
Different browsers, and different devices, also don’t share storage: hours tracked in Chrome on your phone won’t appear in Safari on your laptop.
Backing up and restoring
In Settings, download a backup of your data as a file now and then, and keep it somewhere safe. You can restore it later — on the same device after a mishap, or on a new one to move your history across.
If you would rather not think about it, Clockflux Pro syncs your data to your account automatically and keeps every device you sign in on up to date.
