New in Clockflux Pro: track your hours per task
Themes: App feature3 min readBy David Lawrence
If you split your day between clients or projects, the total on the Track tab only tells you half the story. At the end of the month you still have to work out how much of those 160 hours went to whom, usually from memory and a calendar full of meetings.
Clockflux Pro can now do that for you. Task tracking was on our work-in-progress page a few days ago, and it's live today.
What's new
You can now tell Clockflux what you're working on. Every session belongs to a task, and Clockflux adds up the hours for each one: today, in your history, over any period you like, and in your exports.
It's off until you switch it on, so nothing changes if you track your day as a whole.
How to use it
- Open Settings → Tasks and set I track my time to Per task.
- Add your tasks, for example one per client or project. You can rename them later, and archive the ones you're done with. An archived task leaves the Track tab but keeps its hours. Each task also gets a colour, which marks it on the Track tab and in your totals; tap its swatch to pick another.
- On the Track tab, a Task picker now sits just under the check-in toggle. Pick the task, then check in as usual. The last task you used is already selected, and + New task adds one on the spot.
You can't check in until a task is chosen, so no hours end up unassigned by accident.
To change task while you work, pick another one in the picker. Clockflux checks you out of the current task and into the new one at the same moment, so each session belongs to one task and nothing is counted twice. During a break the picker is locked, the same way checking out is: end the break first.
Where to see your hours
- Today by task, under today's total on the Track tab, shows the hours for each task so far, and keeps counting while you work.
- The history lists the hours per task under each day.
- The Tasks tab, which appears in the tab bar in task mode, charts each day of this week, last week, this month, last month, this year or any dates you choose (each month, for long periods), stacked in your tasks' colours. Tap a column to see that day's hours per task. Below the chart, every task's total and share.
- CSV and PDF exports gain a Tasks column, so a timesheet or an invoice can show where the time went.
If you've connected an AI assistant, it can check you in on a task too: ask it to start your day on a given client.
Good to know
The hours per task are the time of your sessions. If you've turned on adding untaken breaks to your hours, that adjustment is made at the end of the day and counts for the day, not for any one task. So the task totals for a day can differ slightly from the day's total.
