A little Halloween in your timesheet
Themes: App feature3 min readBy David Lawrence
Open Clockflux today and, if you're on Pro, there's a pumpkin sitting next to the title. The tab bar has gone spooky too, with a ghost on Track and a skull on Health. It's Halloween, and the app has dressed up for it.
Counting hours is serious work for most of the year, so once in a while Clockflux lets itself have a bit of fun. Here's what you'll see.
What changes
Two things, and both are decoration.
The header badge. Next to the app title there's a small round picture: a glowing jack-o'-lantern under a night sky, with a moon, a few stars and a bat flying past. On a computer, hover over it and it says "Happy Halloween". On a phone there's no room beside the title, so the badge sits on its own line underneath, a little smaller.
The tab bar. Each tab swaps its usual emoji for a Halloween one. The labels stay as they were, so nothing moves:
- Track: 👻
- Tasks: 🧹 (this tab only appears if you track your hours per task)
- Calendar: 🎃
- Holiday: 🦇
- Health: 💀
Yes, the skull is on the Health tab, which is where your overtime balance lives. We'll leave you to decide whether that's fitting.
Everything else works as before. Your hours, targets, overtime and days off are worked out exactly the same way.
How long it lasts
The Halloween look runs from 24 to 31 October, going by the date on your device, and it switches itself off after the 31st. The app checks the date when it opens, so if you keep Clockflux open for days, reload it to see the change.
It isn't only Halloween
Halloween is one of six seasons in the app, each with its own badge and its own set of tab icons:
- Christmas, from 18 to 25 December
- New Year, from 26 December to 2 January
- Valentine's Day, from 7 to 14 February
- Easter, from Good Friday to Easter Monday
- Thanksgiving, from Thursday to Sunday of the US holiday weekend
Thanksgiving falls on the fourth Thursday of November, so this year that's 26 to 29 November, and it follows the US date wherever you are. It's the next one to come.
Switching it on or off
The holiday theme is a Clockflux Pro feature, one of the small personalisation options next to your own light and dark colours and your country's flag for public holidays. On the free plan you won't see it.
To check the switch, or to turn the theme off:
- In the app, open Settings → Language & appearance.
- Open Personalization and find Holiday badge and tab icons.
One switch covers all six seasons. If you can't see the pumpkin and you're on Pro, this is the first place to look. Switch it off and Clockflux stays plain all year.
Happy Halloween.
