Decimal hours converter
Timesheets and payroll often want 7.75 hours, not 7:45. Convert either way below.
How to convert minutes to decimal hours
Divide the minutes by 60 and add the result to the whole hours. 7 hours 45 minutes is 7 + 45 ÷ 60 = 7 + 0.75 = 7.75 hours. To go back, multiply the part after the decimal point by 60: 0.75 × 60 = 45 minutes.
A common mistake is to read 7.30 as “seven thirty”. In decimal hours, 7.30 is 7 hours and 18 minutes; seven and a half hours is 7.5.
Adding up a timesheet
Hours and minutes don’t add up like ordinary numbers — 7:45 + 8:20 is 16:05, not 15:65. Converting each day to decimal first makes the sum easy: 7.75 + 8.33 = 16.08 hours. Multiply by an hourly rate and you have the pay for those hours.
Quarter-hour rounding
Many employers and timesheet tools round to the nearest quarter hour (0.25). The converter above shows that figure too. Clockflux does the same when it shows your daily totals in decimal, so 7 h 50 min appears as 7.75 — see tracking your hours.
